Is This the Best Brit Stop on the East Yorkshire Coast?
New to motorhoming and looking for somewhere to spend the night to test our off-grid setup, we decided we’d give the Crown & Anchor a call. The owner couldn’t have been more accommodating. He asked for my name and registration number, but I couldn’t remember it with the motorhome being so new.
The funny thing is, it’s actually really easy to remember… and equally cringe. If you know, you know.
We arrived at around 6:30pm and were surprised by how busy it was for the location. The car park was almost full, but we had a space saved for us towards the back. I got my parking levellers out, but I should’ve just left them in the box, the parking space was bob on, as they say in the trade.
With the motorhome parked up, it was time for a beer and some food.
Note: There was never any pressure to buy food, but it’s always worth supporting these Brit Stops that kindly give us access to their facilities.
A Cold Beer Awaited Us
After a two-hour drive in 27-degree heat, these drinks were greatly appreciated.
Amazing Food

Our Home for the Night
Great hosts, good food, quiet, secluded, and level. What more do you need for the night?
A 6-Mile Walk Along the Golden Sands
After a lovely night’s uninterrupted sleep, a cup of Yorkshire Tea and a bacon sandwich were needed. More than that though, we were looking forward to a walk along the golden sands of Spurn Point. The beach was clean, littered only with what the sea had given back.
As we walked and talked, we discussed just how good our first Brit Stop experience had been. Firstly, how easy it was to book, but more importantly, how welcoming the hosts at the Crown & Anchor were.
We also really enjoyed the location. It wasn’t overly busy, and the surrounding walks were perfect for us, with plenty to explore.

Lots to See and Do
We'd like to take credit for this, but we can't. We don't have the patience or the steady hands required.
Beachcombing
Spurn Point is the perfect place for a spot of beachcombing. It's amazing what the sea gives up.
Endless Walks Among Nature
National Nature Reserve famous for dramatic tides, military history, and over 400 species of migratory birds.

It Was That Good, We Had to Do It Twice
On the night of the England vs Norway World Cup quarter-final, we were booked onto another site not too far from the Crown & Anchor. We were looking forward to getting settled in the motorhome and watching the football, but because of the location, we couldn’t get a signal. The nearest pub was 30 minutes away, and there was only one Uber for the entire village.
Kick-off was fast approaching, and the fear of missing out started to creep in. So I thought, what the hell, let’s see if we can get back on the car park at the Crown & Anchor.
Once again, we gave them a call and they booked us in. That’s after the girls had a laugh at me for not being able to remember my cringey registration plate… again.
We were welcomed once again and shown to a small room with a TV. It wasn’t the biggest, but we can’t complain. An hour earlier, I genuinely thought I wasn’t going to get to watch the football at all, and that would’ve spoiled my entire weekend. I’m not sure Anna would’ve enjoyed spending the night with me either!
So, from both of us, thank you. You were fantastic hosts.
If we had to mention one negative, and we do like to be fair and honest, it would be that the toilets could do with a spruce up, or maybe just a nice fragrance.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and we’d happily stay again.
Things to do?
Honestly, although this Brit Stop is the perfect place for those who prefer the slow pace of life, it really doesn’t have much surrounding it, and I suppose that’s why we love it. It has over 3.5 miles of beach and one of the best nature reserves on the Yorkshire coastline. Not that we’re twitchers… but who doesn’t love a good bird?
If you’re prepared to make Crown & Anchor part of your adventure, then look no further than the Get Your Guide Yes, we promote it because we get a small kickback, but the truth is, we use it when we’re away. Sometimes you find some great places at reduced rates and, although we’re not twitchers, we do love a good museum from time to time, so it’s always worth checking their promotions.
